Editorial policy.
Pholio is a travel publication. Everything we publish is written by people, fact-checked against local sources, and held to standards we describe openly below. If you find something that violates these rules, write to us and we'll correct or retract it.
1. Sources
Every answer is grounded in at least one of: (a) the author's lived experience, (b) on-the-ground reporting in the past six months, (c) interviews with local residents or businesses. We do not publish answers built from secondary web sources alone.
2. Sponsorship and affiliate links
Editorial pages carry no paid placement. We accept no money, comped meals, free accommodation, or press trips from restaurants, hotels, tour operators, or tourism boards.
The Pholio app contains no advertising. We fund the publication through paid app subscriptions only.
3. AI and generated content
We do not publish AI-generated answers. We use AI internally for translation drafts, transcription, and fact-check lookups; every word you read is written and edited by a named person.
4. Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it visibly. Every correction is timestamped at the bottom of the article. Substantive changes (facts, recommendations, prices moving more than 20%) trigger a "Updated" badge on the article.
5. Seasonal review
Every article is reviewed at least twice a year by an editor other than the original author. Stale articles — defined as unreviewed for 12 months — are marked as such and deprioritised in search.
6. Complaints and removal
Businesses named in our articles can request a correction or right-of-reply by writing to editors@pholio.co. We don't remove critical mentions on request, but we will correct factual errors within five business days.
7. Conflicts of interest
Contributors disclose any personal or family connection to a business they write about. Such disclosures appear at the top of the relevant article.
